I got to interview Dr. Jackie Callahan who is the Chiropractor at the Optimal Living Institute. We got to talk a little about Acid Reflux! You can watch the full interview above! If you don't want to, here is a quick read for you. But I must say you'll be missing out on a ton of info that could be highly beneficial to your health.
What is Acid Reflux?
So, you know that feeling when your stomach acid decides to take a little road trip up your esophagus just for fun? Yep, that's acid reflux for you! It's like your stomach is playing a prank on you, thinking it's hilarious to send acid where it definitely shouldn't be.
They even gave it a fancy name - GERD, which stands for "Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease." It's like your digestive system's way of saying, "Hey, let's spice things up a bit and irritate the food pipe lining just for kicks!" Although it's not just for kicks even though it may seem that way. There are reasons why you have acid reflux, which we will get into later. Imagine your stomach acid and bile having a party and deciding to crash into your food pipe, causing all sorts of drama. It's a chronic condition, so it's like they're the unruly guests that just won't leave.
Warning Signs:
Feeling the burn more than twice a week? Congratulations, you might be hosting a GERD party in your food pipe!
What is Acid Reflux Caused By?
There are a number of things Acid Reflux can be caused by. It could be:
Food intolerance
Low stomach acid
Hiatal Hernia
Chronic Stress
Helicobacter Pylori
It's important to look into GERD from a holistic point of view and not just take those PPI's your primary care physician most likely gave you. Look into all those aspects above until you find which one is the root cause.I bet you're wondering, "How do you make acid reflux go away?" Let's get into it!
How to Make Acid Reflux Go Away
Try not eating too much at one time
If you are obese, make changes to become a healthier weight
Try sleeping in a different position
Wear looser fitting clothing around your abdomen
If you are a smoker, don't do that anymore...
Track your food and symptoms with the Ekho Health food journal
Eat slower and in a relaxed state
Make sure to stay hydrated with water throughout the day
